My boyfriend doesn’t want me to go away to college

I am 17 years old and a senior in high school. My boyfriend and I have been dating for over a year and we are really really close! We know we want to get married. The problem is I want to go away to college and my boyfriend doesn’t want me to. I don’t know what to do and I am all tied up in knots. I don’t want to lose him but we have our whole lives ahead of us. I don’t see what the big deal is to go away to college for a few years. Please help me Dr. Patty Ann.

You sure sound like you are head over heels for your boyfriend! If he really loves you – he will appreciate your desire and needs – and that includes going away to college. My advice is to go away to college – explore more of the world. If your boyfriend breaks up with because you went away – that is his choice.
