Insecure about weight gain

Sex

Dear Dr. Patty Ann,

Since the birth of my 2nd child I haven’t been able to lose 20 lbs of my pregnancy so I don’t want to have sex with my husband because I am afraid he will be so turned off by my body. Dr. Patty Ann, do you have any suggestions?

Betsy,

Many women express this concern so you should know you are not alone. You must remember your husband fell in love with you – and not your figure. You are under-estimating the sense of awe and wonder most men feel related to the miracle of birth. You have given your husband the best gift in the world – a child! A husband’s love for his wife – and desire for her often increases with the birth of each child – and they could care less about your weight gain. So give yourself a break and stop being hyper-critical of yourself.
